　　年仅十岁的小女孩菠·亚当斯（约翰尼·斯奎娅 Johnny Sequoyah 饰）与生俱来拥有令人惊叹的心灵致动能力，但她也因此从出生那一刻起成为了某有着军方背景的研究机构的研究对象。该机构负责人罗曼·斯古洛斯博士（凯尔·麦克拉克伦 Kyle MacLachlan 饰）对菠寄予厚望，但从小看着菠长大的前中情局外勤特工心理学家弥尔顿·温特（戴尔里·林多 Delroy Lindo 饰）担心他的“小女儿”成为被国家利用的武器，因此联合部分员工发起叛逃行动，带走了力量逐渐增长的菠。弥尔顿从监狱中救出了菠的生父威廉姆·塔特（杰克·麦克劳克林 Jake McLaughlin 饰），委托他将女孩带到费城。而中情局则派出资深探员伊丽莎白·法霍尔（Trieste Kelly Dunn 饰）追踪这对父女行迹。斯古洛斯更不肯轻易失去菠和她强大的力量。
