　　故事发生在荒无人烟的美国西部，在阿帕鲁萨镇上，阿弗雷特（维果·莫特森 Viggo Mortensen 饰）和其搭档维吉尔（艾德·哈里斯 Ed Harris 饰）依靠着武力和枪支艰难维持着镇上的短暂和平。小镇上最有权势的当属农场主兰德尔（杰瑞米·艾恩斯 Jeremy Irons 饰），由于手握着大量的资源，兰德尔和其党羽在镇上简直能用“横行霸道”来形容。
终于，在惨剧接连发生之后，镇上居民们决定不再忍耐，一场大战即将拉开序幕。与此同时，一个名为艾莉森（芮妮·齐薇格 Renée Zellweger 饰）来到了镇上，这位身份神秘的美艳女子一现身无疑让镇上本来就一触即发的危机状况雪上加霜。这一次，阿弗雷特和维吉尔能否依靠彼此的默契和丰富的经验带领着居民们度过这场难关呢？
