◎简　　介

　　由于工作上的失误，发明家罗伯特（凯文·史派西 Kevin Spacey 饰）所发明的运动器械导致了数千人手部受伤，因此，罗伯特被判处了八年的有期徒刑，以此弥补他所犯下的过错。八年后，出狱的罗伯特并没有感觉到重获自由的欣喜，恰恰相反，当他发现前妻已经另结新欢并且霸占了房屋和财产后，愤怒和痛苦交织出现在罗伯特的心绪中。

　　无奈之下，无处可去的罗伯特只得投奔女儿艾利克斯（卡米拉·贝勒 Camilla Belle 饰），面对阔别已久的父亲，艾利克斯所表现出来的疏离和冷漠犹如一盆冷水，再一次地浇在了罗伯特的头上。八年间，世界已经变成了罗伯特不认识的模样，在努力适应新生活的同时，罗伯特还得卖力工作填饱自己的肚子。
