　　《交换生阿曼达》根据真实故事改编，剧本由曾参与过《CSI:NY》以及《法律与秩序》的Wendy Battles创作。1987年出生的Amanda Knox来自西雅图，是华盛顿大学语言学学生，她作为交换生来到意大利佩鲁贾学习一年的意大利语、德语和写作。她被控于2007年与男友Raffaele Sollecito和好友Rudy Guede合谋杀害大学室友，英国人Meredith Kercher。该事件引起了美国、英国和意大利媒体的广泛关注。意大利检察官Guiliani Mignini把Amanda称之为狡猾的狐狸，形容她是一个纵欲过度、冷血无情的杀人犯，最终经过长达两年的诉讼，三人分别被判处26年、25年和16年监禁。但关于Amanda是否有罪，还是无辜的受害者一直持有争议。目前Amanda本人正在上诉过程中，Amanda的家人和律师都担心该片会对她的上诉产生负面影响，但Lifetime还是按原计划播放了该片。
