　　四处洋溢着节日气氛的圣诞夜，一位作家接到了一个神秘的电话，在电话那头的不是别人，竟是世界上唯一的一位圣诞老人尼古拉斯（汉努·珀卡·卓克曼 Hannu-Pekka Bj?rkman 饰），而我们的故事，讲述的正是这位传奇老人的奇幻人生。
　　
　　从小就不幸成为孤儿的尼古拉斯生活在位于芬兰的一座小岛之上，在那里，居民们轮流担负起了照顾尼古拉斯的责任，为了感谢收养他的善良的人们，每当即将离开一个家庭的时候，尼古拉斯便会献上自己亲手制作的小小礼物表达谢意。饥荒的爆发让居民们陷入了恐慌，无奈之下，他们将尼古拉斯送往了名为利萨齐（约翰·特托罗 John Turturro 饰）处做学徒工，也正是这段特殊的经历改变了尼古拉斯的一生。
